The 2021 World New Energy Vehicle Conference took place on September 16 in Hainan. As part of its plan for the upcoming few years, one of the leading car manufacturers in the world, BMW, also posited its vision at the conference. In a speech, its director Frank Weber mentioned that BMW group will aim to launch 12 purely electric vehicles by 2023, keeping in mind the concern for the environment. Moreover, this will also facilitate 25% of the company’s total sales in China.

Director of BMW Wei Bofan emphasized the company’s vision of choosing a carbon-neutral path. He further mentioned that this focus would also bring the vehicle’s entire lifecycle into its peripheral vision. By 2030, the group hopes they will be able to reduce the average life cycle carbon emissions of a single vehicle by 40% compared to the numbers in 2019. This will also help the group in reducing carbon emissions by 50%. It is rather an ambitious project for BMW. Bofan did not stop there. He went on to announce that the group’s long-term goal is to reduce carbon emissions at the production level of cars by another 80% globally.

Following Weber, Bofan also laid out the probable plan or what to achieve by 2023. “In the next two years, the BMW Group will release new pure electric 7 series, X1 and 5 series. By 2023, the company will have at least one pure electric vehicle in almost every market segment.”

Wei Bofan said. Apart from reducing overall carbon emissions, the group will also expand the public charging infrastructure with the State Grid Electric and Telai Power New Energy. At the conference, the BMW Group also made sure to announce that they will continue with their investments in the future technological innovation taking place in China.
