We gotta admit that everybody has some sort of weird experience during our rides. Kanav Sharma, a management consultant at A.T. Kearney, had a similar kind of experience which he posted on Twitter. However, the crowd started a huge debate following his tweet.
Apparently, Kanav Sharma had a kind of an argument with the Ola cab driver during his ride. Following the incident, he shared his experience via his Twitter handle. The turn of events resulted in victimizing the driver and the #BoycottOla started to trend on Twitter.
On January 24, 2020, Kanav Sharma posted on Twitter that he was on a phone call talking about India’s current economic situation. The driver overheard his phone conversation and started a possible argument.
Kanav wrote that the driver then told him, “only 6 years of Modi government, how can you blame economy? It is Congress’s fault of 70 years”. Not only this, but Kanav’s tweets also show that the driver also accused JNU of producing “hub of Tukde Tukde gang” while expressing his own political thoughts.
Furthermore he also allegedly termed Kanav as “anti-national” while expressing that his “forefathers should have migrated to Pakistan”.
Following the incident, Kanav posted on Twitter tagging Ola cabs: “it would be much better if your drivers would focus on driving than overhearing conversations and taggin people anti-nationals during their driving duties”.
He also mentioned how fake news is affecting people and the communities that resulted in such a scary situation.
Immediately after this, Ola Support retweeted apologizing for the whole incident: “We have reported the driver-partner for corrective action and would ensure to avoid these instances in the future”.
How Twitter reacted
However, the whole incident took a different turn after the re-tweet from Ola’s side. Netizens were enraged and started to blame both Kanav and the ride-hailing company. The mass is also threatening of boycotting Ola cabs from here on if the driver is not re-hired.
Ola has not yet made any further Tweets regarding the situation. We are also not sure if Ola has fired the driver or not. The whole incident has turned into a political massacre on Twitter which is quite disappointing.
Without any further investigation, none of the parties should be held responsible for any kind of damages. We still can’t blame anybody properly for this situation.
The recent CAA topic is surely trending at a sensitive level. It seems that this #BoycottOla thing just triggered the whole situation again.
