The Early Access Program participants are privy to the fourth iteration of Tesla’s Smart Summon feature. This feature, which was previously named ‘Enhanced Summon’ will help its users operate their all-electric cars through the Tesla mobile app. What’s more, it would also help them travel autonomously to their location.
ALL Electric, a YouTube channel posted a video of the Model 3 and it is seen navigating from various parking spaces to selected point locations. Overall the vehicle has pretty smooth driving techniques.
However, the most interesting part of the demonstration is the vehicle’s response to the transition from asphalt to brick on its driving path.
Smart Summon is trying to lure in and win the heart of its customers by showing off their parking lot navigation system.
Should be able to drive around a parking lot, find an empty spot, read signs to confirm it’s valid & park – Elon Musk, CEO, Tesla
However, this feature has not been materialized yet. This problem is understandable and quite predictable as seen from the challenges faced by the Model 3 in the demo video.
Musk jokingly tweeted that the “excessive shades of grey” of the particular pose the biggest problem to them. In the latest update to Smart Summon, this problem of assessing the change in the parking lot composition surfaced even though it was able to determine its drivability after a pause for assessment.
Smart Summon also allows the Tesla customers to “walk” their cars like a pet by holding down the Summon button on the Tesla app. Musk had also promised remote control car capability.
Tesla V10 firmware will be released later this month. “Depends on how release to owners with early access goes, but hopefully wide release by the end of August,” Musk replied on Twitter to a question about the V10’s availability at the end of last month.
