Among the upcoming onslaught of live-action Disney movies, Aladdin has the highest expectations with insane visuals and swelling orchestral versions of classic songs, which are entirely different from the original. The recent teaser that dropped lately for Aladdin during the Grammys is pretty exciting, but more than that, it features the first look at Will Smith’s Genie.
The new one-minute Aladdin trailer shows the fictional Middle Eastern setting. The action goes this way: Jafar asks Aladdin (Mena Massoud) to bring the lamp. Aladdin, escorted by Abu the monkey, enters the Cave of Wonders, a fancy procession moving through the Agrabah streets; Naomi Scott, the princess Jasmine, walks down the palace followed by her pet tiger Rajah and then Aladdin rubs the famed lamp that holds the Genie.
Will Smith appears in the minute-long Disney Aladdin teaser, teasing Mena Massoud’s Aladdin. Seeing the Genie in a full-blown live-action version with one of the most recognizable faces on the planet is a bit weird. Even Smith received backlash from fans on Twitter.
The film is about to hit the theaters this 24 May, 27 years after the original animated version premiered.
