On June 14, Netflix and DreamWorks Animation released the first teaser trailer and a new image from DreamWorks’ upcoming series ‘Fast & Furious: Spy Racers’ at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival in France.
The series is an animated spin-off to the Fast and Furious franchise, and the teaser trailer of 15 seconds time span demonstrated the only brief flashed of footage from which it could be discerned that the series would be partly set in Los Angeles.
DreamWorks Animation gave us the background to the animation series:
The ‘Fast & Furious: Spy Racers‘ animated series that has Vin Diesel as an executive producer, veteran Fast and Furious writer Chris Morgan, along with Tim Hedrick (Voltron: Legendary Defender) and Bret Haaland (All Hail King Julien) serving as showrunners, is one of the numerous animated projects undertaken jointly by Netflix and DreamWorks that would be released in 2019.
Fast & Furious: Spy Racers expands the high-octane action in all-new animated series as teenager Tony Toretto follows in the footsteps of his cousin Dom when he and his friends are recruited by a government agency to infiltrate an elite racing league serving as a front for a nefarious crime organization bent on world domination
The Fast and Furious franchise keeps on expanding with not only the newly-revealed ‘Fast & Furious: Spy Racers’ animated series, but also with the upcoming Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham-starrer ‘Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw’ slated to release on August 2019, along with a developing live-action spin-off possibly centered on Letty Ortiz which is underway with three female screenwriters. Moreover, director Justin Lin would be returning with at least two mainline movies in the next couple of years.
