Tesla CEO Elon Musk congratulated Ford on its first-ever electric pickup truck on 20th May. Ford recently unveiled the electric version of its F-150 truck, and it is the first electric truck from the automobile giant. Musk took to Twitter to congratulate Ford, and the tweet reads, “Congrats to @Ford on embracing an electric future!” The newest electric car is likely to be the rival of Tesla’s Cybertruck when it decides to launch it in the US.
Ford has claimed that the F-150 electric truck will offer a range of around 482 km on a single charge. This is slightly higher than what the base model of Cybertruck has offered. However, the upgraded version of the Cybertruck with a larger battery and overall enhanced capacity can also promise and deliver more than 800 km on a single charge.
The price for Ford’s first-ever electric car will be on par with Tesla’s Cybertruck, although Tesla is yet to unveil the pricing of its Cybertruck. Ford electric pickup truck will cost almost half of the price of the Rivian R1T, and this decision comes after eyeing the rivals in the US.
Ford Motor’s F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck will come at a starting price of 39,974 dollars (approximately less than 30 lakh), which the company hopes will help them build a considerable clientele. The pricing range also makes the F-150 truck one of the most affordable electric vehicles.
Although Tesla is the biggest manufacturer of electric vehicles in the US, other companies are joining the bandwagon rapidly. Electric cars currently contribute to about 2 percent of the entire vehicle sales in the US. Tesla had hoped, and now Ford is hoping that affordable electric cars with access to a vast charging infrastructure will attract more customers to electric vehicles.
