This weekend, starting on December 10, Sony is offering gamers the chance to access the online multiplayer games of its PlayStation Plus subscription service for free.

Players will be able to enjoy the multiplayer games in PS4 and PS5 titles without the need to purchase a PS Plus subscription. PlayStation players usually need to be PlayStation Plus subscribers in order to access their paid games online unless they’re free-to-play.

PlayStation online multiplayer weekend offers free games without a subscription

The announcement was made via the official Twitter account, and the free online multiplayer weekend will continue from December 10 to December 11. The exact time is not mentioned in the announcement.

No matter if a player has a subscription or not, all multiplayer games that usually need one will be accessible during the Playstation Plus Online Multiplayers weekend to everyone. This features newly released titles like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and NBA 2K23, as well as all-time favorites like GTA Online.

The only requirement for participating in this free online multiplayer weekend is to have a PlayStation Network account. Even though PS Plus subscribers won’t gain anything from this, they may now play with their buddies who haven’t renewed or joined the subscription.

The cheapest PlayStation Plus plan, called Essential, costs £6.99 or Rs. 499 per month and grants access to online multiplayer games and three free titles each month. However, based on the tier level of the membership, PlayStation also provides a wide range of other goodies, so joining the service gets you more than simply multiplayer.

Sony reported in November that the number of PlayStation Plus members had declined by roughly two million since the program was revamped earlier this year when the new three-tier system was implemented. So it’s likely that Sony is aiming to recover lost members by offering free PlayStation Plus games to remind gamers of the subscription perks.
