General Motors’ Future Electric Vehicles is going to launch their Wireless Battery Management System Technology. This will be a very first offering of its kind and will be available for the production of electric vehicles. This wireless system, developed with Analog Devices, Inc., will be a primary driver of GM’s to run different electric vehicles using a common set of battery components.
This will drive the Ultium-powered EVs to market faster, as no extra time will be needed for specific communication systems or for reframing complex wiring schemes for every vehicle. This will scalability of Ultium batteries across for future products of the company.
The pack design of GM’s Ultium batteries is flexible enough to accommodate new software and technology. The Vehicle Intelligence Platform from GM will help in the upgradations further with software-based features via smartphone.
The wBMS will help GM’s electric vehicles in balancing chemistry within the individual battery cell groups for optimal performance, tracing real-time battery pack health checks, and refocussing the network of modules and sensors as needed. This will help to safeguard the health of the battery over the vehicle’s lifespan. There will be lighter vehicles as the wires will be reduced by 90 percent.

This wireless system also helps in reusing the battery. When the wireless packs become old, they can be combined with other wireless battery packs to form clean power generators. There will be cybersecurity in the wireless system.
