In a tweet today, Evan Blass revealed Google’s plan to release the first Android P Developer Preview around mid-March. Following the patterns of Google’s last releases of these developer previews since Nougat in 2016, one might say it has been streamlined now.

The last few weeks have seen references to Android P here and there, and now we have a probable time of the release of its developer preview. Nougat had 5 previews released in 2016, and Oreo followed after 4 preview releases last year. What’s Google cooking this time?

As for features to expect, one is that of support for unique display types such as multiple screens and notches. At the same time, the enhancement of Google Assistant integration in apps can be expected with eyes closed.

Several AOSP entries say that security features will receive an expansion. Apps running in the background won’t be able to access the camera or microphone for these. XDA found out that works are on from Google for preventing background apps from having access to a microphone.

There is no clear timeline yet for the developer previews, which means that March 15 is as well so far a probability until any official revealing comes up. Pixel and Pixel 2 are likely to be eligible devices for the first preview in March. Stay with us for the next update as it surfaces.
