According to Commercial Times, the Chinese media, Google is in the final stage of negotiating regarding buying HTC. Previously, Google-owned Motorola for a short time period, within which the latter regained back its lost glory. It looks like Google intends to save another dying phone maker company, HTC.
HTC has been declining for the last two years. As per its financial report, August 2017 was the worst month for the company in 13 years. In comparison to July 2017, the last month saw a 51.5% drop in the company’s revenue. This will be even worse because the Taiwanese company has not recently had any new phones.
Coming back to Google’s purchase, the search giant might just become a strategic partner or entirely a buyer. Now, as per the market, Google needs a hardware company to keep the rivalry against Apple alive.
Also, HTC joined hands with Google many times before. They introduced the likes of Pixel, Pixel 2, Google Nexus 1, and Nexus 9. Therefore, it looks like Google has trust in HTC’s manufacturing attributes.
On the other hand, Google’s short-term taking over of Motorola was for acquiring patents. Not only that, but it was also for keeping them away from rivals like Microsoft and Apple.
It isn’t yet officially confirmed that Google would buy HTC. We have to see if HTC comes up with a new phone or at least a line of Pixel. There are, in fact, rumors that HTC might target lower or mid-range categories for its new phones. These could be Android Go or Android One devices, and it might be so that Pixel remains as the premium line.
