Google’s spree of joining other forces in the market for future developmental implementations has a new feather. Tencent agreed to join hands with the search giant to share patents across products and technologies.

This is an influential alliance that brings two of the world’s biggest companies together in the platform of cross-licensing, with the aim to take future technologies to greater heights. The agreement is going to benefit both of them. Google can strengthen its base further in China, and Tencent will have the chance to expand itself in the States and, thusly, globally.

It is also true that the partnership created is practically another industrial arrangement between corporations to minimize patent infringements. For instance, Google has recently partnered with Samsung and others, making it a spree for itself in its progressions.

Furthermore, it’s important to note that the American company ended self-censorship, which led to the withdrawal of its search engine from China in 2010. Numerous of its services are still blocked in the country, but the deal with Tencent is a step forward in its presence-rebuilding attributes in the second largest economy in the world. In accordance with that, Google is sharing its AI software tools and enhancing investments for establishing a new research base there.

“By working together on agreements such as this, tech companies can focus on building better products and services for their users.” – Mike Lee, Google’s Head of Patents

On the other hand, Tencent is the fifth largest company in the world and the biggest in China. It is the operator of the omnipresent message platform WeChat and is the standalone leader in social media and gaming at its home. Considering all of these points, the Chinese giant is indeed an ideal ally for Google while foreseeing the future.
