Nokia launched three smartphones at a recently concluded launch event in New Delhi, India, and revealed details on specs, price, and availability. All of these smartphones bear AI capabilities and are built on the Android One platform.
Nokia 6 (2018) sports 5.5-inch FHD 1080p IPS display and packs Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 octa-core processor. It is carrying 4GB RAM and 32 GB/64 GB inbuilt storage. The cameras include 16mp for the rear and 8mp in the front. Running the Android 7.1.1 Nougat, the battery is of 3,000mAh capacity.
The phone supports the Bothie camera and the brand’s OZO audio. It also gets aesthetic upgrades, and the highlight is the Zeiss camera.
Nokia 7 Plus offers a 6.0-inch FHD+ 18:9 display with Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 octa-core SoC. It sports 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. This handset houses a dual rear camera with 12 MP primary and 13 MP secondary sensors. The front camera dedicated to selfies is 16 MP. It runs Android 8.0 Oreo and consists of a 3,800 mAh battery.
The phone bears the ‘Large screen experience with a pocketable size’ tagline. This too features a Zeiss camera and the Nokia Pro mode is enabled to provide users with more options during shooting.
Nokia 8 Sirocco showcases a 5.5-inch Quad HD display and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC chipset. The device has 6 GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage. Its dual rear camera features 12 MP primary and 13 MP secondary lenses, and the front camera comes with 5 MP. The OS is Android 8.0 Oreo and the battery provides 3,260 mAh of juice.
95% of the surface body of Sirocco is all-glass. It comes with ‘Ultra sleek, ultra-compact tag, supports wireless charging, and bears IP67 certification.
All three phones have Face Unlock, Pro camera mode, and AI imaging abilities.
As for price and availability, Nokia 1 is priced at Rs. 3,299 for Jio customers. Nokia 6 costs Rs. 16,999 and will be available both offline and online starting April 6. Nokia 7 Plus has a tag of Rs. 25,999 with pre-booking starting on April 20 and sales on April 30 across offline and online stores. Nokia 8 Sirocco has a range of Rs. 49,999 and is available in the same way as the 7 Plus.
HMD Global CMO Pekka Rantala pointed out at the event that India is still one of their top 3 markets worldwide. They have announced 11 phones in the past 12 months, and have sold 70 million Nokia phones in 2017. Rantala revealed that over two-thirds of the buyers were less than 35 years old!
Ajey Mehta, VP and the country-head for HMD said that their business grew 5 times in India in the last 8 months. HMD promises Android updates as they come in the future for Nokia 6 and 8 Sirocco. They as well made Xpress-on covers for Nokia 1 available to buy.
