Huawei Tests Smartphone Equipped With Hongmeng OS

Huawei, as sources report, is testing a smartphone running on Hongmeng OS, the company’s operating system designed as an alternative to Android which could potentially go on sale by the end of this year.

Previously, Hongmeng was described by the company as an operating system designed for internet-of-things products. The news comes after Huawei said Hongmeng OS was designed for IoT products, not smartphones.

Hongmeng-powered smartphone it would mark a significant step for the company. It was first rumored to be an alternative to Google’s Android OS for smartphones. Still, weeks ago, the company announced that it was primarily being developed for IoT devices, not smartphones.

The official announcement is still pending and is expected to be announced at its Developer Conference on August 9.

The new Huawei phones with the HongMeng system will debut in the market in the fourth quarter, with up to several million units in stock. It is expected that the smartphone will show up along with the Huawei Mate30 series – Global Times

The Chinese state-media outlet reports that the tested Hongmeng OS smartphone will target low-end to medium-end markets at a price of around CNY 2,000 (approx Rs 20,000).
