On Thursday, the Hyundai Mobis stated that the company had developed the world’s first biotech mobility system that analyses the driver’s health status. It does so by checking multiple vital signals. The firm reiterated that it further plans on developing this tech into a mobility system that shall monitor for drunk driving. According to official stats for 2019, 12,256 accidents have occurred relating to drunk driving, where 5,325 people were killed and 10,564 injured.
According to Hyundai Mobis, the Smart Cabin Controller, which is the latest tech, consists of four sensors, including a 3D camera and electrocardiogram (ECG) sensor. The controller captures vital signs such as heart rate, brainwaves, and posture and analyzes them. The existing mobility controllers can only detect one crucial sign.
Upon receiving vital signs, the controller analyzes the data and displays a warning via the navigation system, digital cluster, or Head-Up Display if the driver is considered to be in poor health or driving while drowsy. Furthermore, the controller can detect and control the temperature, humidity, and carbon dioxide levels inside the vehicle.
By integrating biotech with mobility, Hyundai Mobis expects the vital signs controller to contribute to vehicles’ role as “mobile health checkup centers.” It is eager to get a head start in the health checkup sector by integrating biotech with mobility. Hyundai Mobis developed M.Brain, a brainwave-based driver monitoring system, last year in another world first. The company also intends to expand global sales of its autonomous cockpit called M.VICS, which is equipped with various new health care technologies, including an ECG sensor, driver monitoring camera, and car sickness reduction technology.
