Jaguar Land Rover is developing a new one-of-its-kind seat that comes with a shape-shifting system that tricks the brain into thinking that a person sitting down on the seat is actually walking.

The seat of the future is called the ‘morphable’, and it is currently being tested by Jaguar Land Rover’s Body Interiors Research division. The researchers are using a series of actuators that are present in the seat to create constant micro-adjustments. These micro-adjustments trick the brain into thinking that the body is in motion.

Smart technology can help fight the risks that come with sitting down for too long, a risk that has become a part of the modern lifestyle.

The wellbeing of our customers and employees is at the heart of all our technological research projects. We are using our engineering expertise to develop the seat of the future using innovative technologies not seen before in the automotive industry to help tackle an issue that affects people across the globe – Dr. Steve Iley, Jaguar Land Rover, Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Iley has also given out a set of guidelines to follow to ensure the perfect driving position, from removing bulky items in your pocket to shoulder positioning and from ensuring your spine and pelvis are straight to supporting your thighs to reduce pressure points.

This would not be the first time that Jaguar Land Rover has made some changes and modified its technology to make it best fitted for its customers. In a previous project, the automobile company had also conducted research to best tackle the problem of motion sickness and the implementation of ultraviolet light technology to stop the spread of colds and flu.

Jaguar has not made any official statement as to when the trial period for the seats will be over and when it will be implemented in their cars.
