Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter, once announced that the company was funding a project focused on creating a decentralized social media standard. According to Jack, the ultimate aim of the project, which was named ‘Bluesky’, was to ensure that Twitter becomes a client of the standard. Now, less than two years after the announcement, which was made on December 11, 2019, Bluesky has announced that a former developer, a software engineer from the Zcash project, Jay Graber, will be at the forefront of leading the Bluesky initiative.
Jay Graber Will Spearhead the Bluesky Project
This Twitter initiative called Bluesky is going to be led by someone who has always been involved with the development of cryptocurrency. The news was brought to light when the former Zcash software developer, Jay Graber, announced on August 16, 2021, that she will be spearheading the Bluesky project.
In her exact words, she wrote; “I’m excited to announce that I’ll be leading Bluesky,” Graber tweeted on Monday. “An initiative started by Twitter to decentralize social media.”
The CEO of Twitter, Jack Dorsey, also responded by welcoming Graber to the project and affirming that she’ll be leading Bluesky.
Dorsey tweeted further “Another step towards decentralizing Twitter and social media. Now we can move much faster, and through code.”
When Dorsey revealed the project back in December 2019, the Twitter CEO said: “Twitter is funding a small independent team of up to five open source architects, engineers, and designers to develop an open and decentralized standard for social media.”
Dorsey explained further by saying that Bluesky innovated to change the already established centralized model of social media. He was also quick to bring up bitcoin at the time when he said “Square is doing exactly this for bitcoin with Square Crypto”.
Graber joined the Zcash team (electric coin. co) in July 2016; before that, she was an engineer with Skuchain. She has also said she looks forward to partnering very closely with Twitter and other prospective companies on this project’s journey.
While she knows it won’t all happen overnight, she is confident about the project and how’s to share progress as they happen.
