As June approaches, League of Legends is expected to have a Pride Event, similar to last year where they introduced several new events for players to participate in and win rewards and fancy skins. June has been celebrated as Pride Month since 1969 in the US, as the tipping point of the Gay Liberation movement and to honor those who fought for LGBTQIA+ rights.
Similar to the Leona with Diana cosmetics last year, the pair of “bitter ex-lovers” currently have pride emotes in the public beta of the game, accompanied by a series of Pingu-themed icons. These mascots will be holding flags representing the communities of Pride, such as the asexual, lesbian, gay, trans, and non-binary so that everyone feels included.
How is League of Legends Celebrating Pride Month in 2022?
League of Legends has been celebrating the Pride Month of June for four years now, and 2022 will mark the fifth. Back in 2018, it started with the Rainbow Fluff Icon—something small, but it meant a lot to the fans of the game. Now, it’s a much bigger deal with tons of free content available to the players.
While the rewards for this year have been announced in the Public Beta Environment (PBE), the announcement of the event itself is still pending, but hopefully, it won’t be long before Riot decides to release the official notice.
When is the Pride Event in League of Legends Releasing?
As the rewards for the Pride Event in League of Legends are currently being tested in the PBE, it is speculated that it won’t take long for the devs to listen to the players’ feedback and fix the bugs before it is incorporated into the game.
Last year, the event began on 17th May and continued all the way to the end of June. However, this year, patch 12.10 is expected to release around 25th May 2022, so perhaps that is when we will get to begin celebrating Pride Month in League of Legends.
The rewards for completing this year’s challenges during Pride Month include two emotes of the featured champions which are Twisted Fate and Graves. Riot has previously raised money for the It Gets Money Project by selling Pride-themed merchandise, but there is no official news if a similar event will happen this year as well.
