In a bid to autonomous driving, LG Electronics has announced a technical collaboration with Magna, a global mobility technology company and one of the largest suppliers in the automotive space, to develop a next-generation autonomous driving-infotainment solution concept.
The two businesses have agreed to work together to create a proof of concept for an automated driving-infotainment system in order to distinguish client experiences and enable mobility readiness.
This partnership builds on the LG and Magna joint venture, LG Magna e-Powertrain Co., Ltd, which was established in July 2021 to produce e-motors, inverters, on-board chargers, and related e-drive systems to meet the growing global transition toward cars for some manufacturers.
Under the agreement, LG and Magna will investigate if it is technically possible to combine LG’s infotainment features with Magna’s Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) and automated driving technology.
In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) skills are a strength of LG Vehicle Component Solutions (VS) Company, which is well-known in the automotive sector. The LG VS Company has been aggressively examining its portfolio of potential future products and technology in preparation for the car of the future.
This idea will center on developing implementable IVI-ADAS solutions to better suit automakers’ vehicle programs. During CES 2023, LG and Magna both intend to present this idea to international automakers.
Eun Seokhyun, president of LG VS Company, said the partnership tends to demonstrate potential ADAS technologies that might aid automakers in overcoming some of their most difficult problems.
“We are excited to work with Magna, now in the automated driving sector, to develop a proof of concept that could bring value expanding beyond our cockpit domain,” said Eun Seokhyun.
“We plan to work closely together to demonstrate potential ADAS innovations that could help automakers address some of their toughest challenges.”
