Lotus came forth in the Goodwood Festival of Speed to announce its upcoming hypercar will be called the Evija. As Auto Express revealed exclusively in June, Lotus’ upcoming hypercar is called the Lotus Evija. The news broke after British sports car manufacturer filed to trademark the Evija name and now it’s been officially confirmed by the brand.
Currently known as the Type 130, the electric Evija hypercar will be revealed in some form at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this fall where we are promised a sneak peek. The Lotus Evija will then be officially revealed two weeks after Goodwood on 16 July at a special event in London.
The Evija is in a plan to go into production next year, and the company says it will open an “exciting new chapter in the history of the iconic British sports car brand.” The automaker also noted the car is the first significant new model to be launched under Geely ownership and hinted this “significance could not be overstated.”
Details regarding the Evija are still thin on the ground for now. Demand for the all-electric Lotus is already active, with several hundred expressions of interest received since the model’s confirmation at the Shanghai International Auto Show earlier in April; this will be the marque’s first all-new model since 2008.
The Lotus Evija is set for a full reveal later this month in London, the company said. In the meantime, however, visitors to the Lotus stand at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed will get a glimpse of the new car, with a ‘light show’ promising to reveal new details and hints to its exterior design.
