The new MG Hector is just around the corner. Morris Garage continues to work on an ambitious car to expand into the Indian market. One of the next launches that will make the iconic automotive firm recognized as an SUV – an SUV that takes as a starting point from a Chinese model. That’s right; the new MG Hector is based on the Baojun 530.

The MG Hector is expected to go on sale in June this year which will be the first car in India built with iSMART NextGen technology. The iconic British brand has joined hands with global tech companies Microsoft, Adobe, SAP, Cisco, and others to provide breakthrough tech experience to Indian consumers.

Unlike what happens with the Baojun 530, which is available in five and seven-seater version, the new MG Hector will only be marketed with five seats. This, together with complete standard equipment, careful adjustments, and an exterior design that squanders its own personality, will be the tricks that MG will play for its new model to succeed in a key market.

The integration of the internet with cars opens up a gamut of features that can ensure a seamless and updated ownership experience for MG customers in India. With an embedded SIM card and OTA, the MG Hector promises to do a lot more over time with constantly-expanding capabilities, to create a seamless driving experience, throughout the life of the car – Rajeev Chaba, President & Managing Director

The new MG Hector will have a semi-hybrid version (Mild Hybrid) with a 48-volt system. This technology of soft hybridization will be positioned as the greenest option in the entire range. This mechanics will use a 1.5 hp gasoline engine. The 48-volt semi-hybrid system will provide up to 20 nm of additional maximum torque. It will also have an energy recovery system during braking to recharge the small battery that uses this type of electrified mechanics.

Visually Delightful InterfaceMG has opted for this type of technology because it directly reduces fuel consumption and emissions. In addition, it is a much cheaper technology with respect to a conventional hybrid (HEV) or even a plug-in hybrid (PHEV).

The new MG Hector can also be purchased with conventional gasoline or diesel engine. In the first case, we will find the mentioned engine 1.5 Turbo gasoline 143 hp, while drivers wishing to opt for diesel mechanics will find a 2.0 engine of 173 hp. As standard, both engines will be associated with a six-speed manual transmission, although an automatic gearbox will be optionally available.

Currently, in India, there is no hybrids car in the general market. When the MG Hector Hybrid starts its engine on Indian roads, it will become the country’s most affordable 48-volt semi-hybrid vehicle.
