Microsoft is still going strong with the Surface Pro 4 which came out four years ago. On May 9, 2020, Microsoft released new firmware updates, and it shows that the company is far from supporting the old laptop. The update is slowly rolling out and is mainly focused on stability and security improvements.

The updates are rolling out gradually so it may take a while for the update to reach everyone. A running Windows 10 version 1809 or newer is a prerequisite for the new firmware update.

The update that the Intel iCLS Client Extension will get will work on addressing security updates and improving the stability of the system.

The Intel Software devices and the Intel Management Engin Interface System will both get the same update as the iCLS Client Extension and will mainly address security updates and on improving system stability.

The Marvell AVASTAR Bluetooth Radio Adapter will get updates to the version 15.68.17018.116 and will work on improving connection stability and enabling the support of new products.

The Marvell AVASTAR Wireless-AC Network Controller, on the other hand, will get updates to the version 15.68.17018.116 while working on the same security updates and the system stability. Surface – Firmware - and the Surface Firmware 109.3192.768.0 will get updated to and 109.3192.768.0 respectively.

It is crystal clear that most of the updates focus on system stability and security; however, the updates on the Bluetooth driver mentions that it will get updates to support “new products”. It is not clear yet what this new product may mean or is referring to. In this respect, it should be mentioned that Microsoft had announced the Surface Headphones 2 and Surface Earbuds earlier this week.

As mentioned before, the update is slowly rolling out today and may take some time before it hits all the Surface Pro 4 users.
