Last week was an exciting moment for Microsoft users. The American multinational technology company officially confirmed September this year as the official release date of Windows 11’s first big OS feature update, Windows 11 22H2.
The version codenamed “Sun Valley 2,” is expected to come with fascinating features that will aid users’ convenience while using the App; among them are a New “spotlight” wallpaper feature, a New Voice Access accessibility feature, New Live Captions accessibility feature, New gestures and animations for touch users, and Focus Assist integration with Notification Center.
However, in a new development, the tech giant is pleased to announce today that is currently working on a feature for Microsoft Edge users. According to Microsoft, the upcoming “Drop” feature will allow Edge users to save and transfer files or notes across devices without having to leave the browser. This feature is rolling out in Microsoft Edge Canary 104, and users can enable or disable it via Settings > Appearance.
The Drop feature is a specialized hub that allows users to drag and drop files and access them from other devices using Microsoft Edge. Users can transmit numerous types of files once their devices have Microsoft Edge and Microsoft accounts.
The new Microsoft Edge’s Drop feature is similar to Telegram’s saved messages. Although Telegram’s saved messages feature allows users to forward and save texts or media messages, Edge Drop allows users to save, transfer files and access them from any location. Similarly, unlike Telegram’s saved messages, Edge Drop does not provide unlimited storage and is dependent on one OneDrive data plan. Therefore, to enjoy this feature, one needs free OneDrive storage.
Though, it should be noted that this feature does not offer different sharing methods, so the easiest way to share files is via the browser itself. Likewise, the feature uses OneDrive, allowing users to view these files directly on the cloud storage platform.
Additionally, the tech giant further maintained that the next version of Edge Canary will reduce the size of the context menu, which we hope will solve the problems of desktop users, and is working on several new features, to be rolled out soon, including the including built-in Cloudflare integration and more.
Unfortunately, the release date of the new Microsoft Edge’s Drop feature has not been communicated yet as it is still under development. Stay connected with TechGenyz for more tech latest updates.
