Modern Warfare 2 is a smashing success, or perhaps the largest of all time. Activision officially reported that sales of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 have surpassed $1 billion globally.
Black Ops 2 had previously held onto the record for the last ten years, but the game has surpassed it by selling through $1 billion in just 10 days. With the Nov. 16 release of Warzone 2, the company expects the boom to continue the following week.
Considering that it only took 10 days from launch to achieve this milestone, Modern Warfare 2 has surpassed all previous Call of Duty games to do so first. It has now become the fastest-selling game in the Call of Duty franchise’s history.
Along with the sales data, Activision also mentioned that player engagement is continually increasing. In the first 10 days after its release on October 28, gamers on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms collectively spent more than 200 million hours including over 1 billion matches playing Modern Warfare 2.
Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick shared his joy in reaching this milestone by saying, “I am extremely happy about the amazing work from our Call of Duty teams and the accomplishments they have reached with Modern Warfare II. Connecting the globe through pleasure, fun, and the thrill of competition is the core of our success. Modern Warfare II has delivered this to millions of players faster and with greater satisfaction than ever before.”
According to a statement made by Sony earlier this week, MW2 has proved to be the biggest launch on PlayStation. Modern Warfare 2 is undoubtedly a huge success on Microsoft’s platform as well, even if Xbox hasn’t disclosed any official sales figures.
The game’s debut sales surpassed $800 million in its first three days. Modern Warfare 2 is without a doubt one of the most well-known multiplayer first-person shooter games worldwide, due to the fact that the buzz around it has been at an all-time high since its debut. But no one in the community had expected this level of success in such a short period of time.
