Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Budget 2019. The Finance Minister informed the house that the government is planning to come up with a National Transport Card that will ease the hassle of carrying multiple cards. The National Trasport Card will be part of the national common mobility plan. The said card can be used for various modes of transport across the country like railways, roadways, and the national transport card will ease mobility for people in the country who use multiple modes of transportation to travel daily.
This transport card enables the user to pay for travel, toll duties (toll tax), retail shopping, and withdraw money. The NCMC card will be issuable as a credit RuPay, prepaid, or debit card from various partnered banks such as the Punjab National Bank, State Bank of India, Bank of India, and others.
Consumers will be able to pay the multiple transport charges via the RuPay card, and they’ll be able to pay parking charges, bus, railway and cab tariffs using this card. The finance minister continued to talk about opening waterways for cargo transportation, which will help decongest roadways and railways, thus easing the burden on both these transport options.
Additionally, the FM has announced a comprehensive national highway development project and improved the existing network to bridge the gap between urban and rural areas. The minister also added that the second phase of the most ambitious #BharatMala project would also see the development of roadways in different states.
