In July last year, Nothing officially unveiled its prime smartphone the Nothing Phone. At launch, the phone was only officially sold in European and Asian markets. However, today, the brand is finally giving people in the United States a way to purchase its debut smartphone by announcing the launch of the Beta Membership program.
According to the mobile brand, United States customers can pay Nothing $299 and, in return, receive the black version of the smartphone with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage to test.
Nothing Phone’s Beta Membership Program
“Phone (1) was not originally released in the US, but it will become an important market for us. By launching the Beta Membership program in the US, we hope to gain a deeper understanding of US users and adopt their opinions,” said Nothing official.
The Beta Membership plan page shows that you need to pay a membership fee of $299 to join Beta Membership, and you can enjoy a Nothing Phone 1 with 8GB memory + 128GB combination.
By taking part in the event, Beta Membership holders can additionally receive Community Black Dot, a non-fungible token (NFT). Players can gain access to Nothing’s Discord channel and early software and product releases by using the NFT money.
The Nothing Phone 1 will still be usable once the Beta Membership expires on June 30, 2023. There is also a 14-day return policy for nothing. The company is in talks with various carriers in the US to possibly offer a future product there, Nothing CEO Carl Pei recently disclosed to CNBC.
He claimed that because of the additional technical assistance required to handle the various networks in the nation and the particular adaptations that [carriers] need to make on top of Android, the company did not initially launch the phone in the US.
“It’s a market where there’s already a lot of interest for our products,” he said. “And if we launch our smartphones there, I’m sure we could obtain significant growth.”
Nothing suggests that all US carriers are not supported by Phone 1. Both Verizon’s 5G and CDMA networks as well as AT&T’s VoLTE and VoWIFI networks are not supported by the device. A portion of the T-Mobile 5G frequency range is usable by Phone 1.
