The magic of Oculus Quest + Rift S VR Headset begins shipping now

Facebook-owned Oculus is all set to ship its latest VR headgear from today. Pre-orders for the PC-free Oculus Quest and the higher-end Oculus Rift S opened up three weeks ago. At F8 2019 last month, Facebook made an announcement of its new additions to the Oculus lineup; Oculus Quest and Oculus Rift S.

Facebook took over back in 2016. While for those sitting in the audience at the F8, was given for free the Oculus Rift S which also retails for $399, and was said to go on sale from 21 May in the US along with the Quest.

The new headset features built-in sensors called “Insight,” which are capable of free-roaming room-scale VR gaming at $399. The Rift S features five separate sensors on the headset and gets a bump in visual output quality. So now, it’s a 1280 x 1440 pixel resolution, up from 1080 x 1200 pixels. The PC-powered VR gaming will come with titles like Asgard’s Wrath, Defector, and Stormland.

Meanwhile, for months, Facebook has been running native ads for Oculus via its eponymous social network although there’s no explicit mention of the Oculus brand unless one clicks through to “learn more.”

For those fans who are wanting to partake in Facebook’s flavored face gaming, the Oculus Quest and Rift S are available to buy through oculus.com and retail partners including Amazon, Best Buy, Newegg, Walmart, and GameStop in the US; Currys PC World, FNAC, MediaMarkt, in the EU and UK; and Amazon in Japan. Quest comes in a 64GB model for USD 399 and a 128GB model for $499 that runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 835.
