The year-end seems to be quite smooth for smartphone releases of OPPO. The Taiwan company announced the A75 and A75s, after which the OPPO A83 was launched in China today.
The smartphone showcases a similar design as that of the A75. The only major difference is the absence of the fingerprint scanner in A83, as OPPO decided to stick to Face Unlock, like Apple doing the same with iPhone X.
The metal back panel with curves at the edges provides more convenient handling of A83. The rear camera is positioned upwards with the LED flash on the right. In the middle is the logo branding of the company.
The front panel features a full-screen display, having reduced white bezels on the gold variant, and black on its black version. The 5.7-inch HD+ display is incorporated into 4GB RAM and 32GB storage. A83 further packs a 2.5GHz octa-core processor, most likely to be of Helio P23, although the type is not revealed by OPPO.
As for the camera, the 13MP rear setup has the ability to shoot up to 50MP, claimed by the company. The 50MP range can be achieved by ‘stitching several shots together.’ Encouraging the selfie fans is the 8MP sensor with AI beauty mode.
The highlight of A83 is the face unlock feature that takes about 0.18 seconds to unlock. In terms of the unlocking speed, the OnePlus 5T is one of the fastest but clocks 0.4 seconds where A83 is ahead. According to OPPO, the phone can scan for as many as 128 facial features.
The battery is 3,180 mAh and the phone runs the ColorOS 3.2 out of the box. Priced at ¥1,399 or $214, the two color variants are black and Champaign. The official online OPPO shop is available for pre-orders with sales starting from December 29. If you are to pre-order, you will get a pair of QY7 Bluetooth headphones for free.
