The Panda Cup 2022 could be the first fully licensed Super Smash Bros. championship circuit in North America., with Melee and Ultimate tournaments and a prize pool of $100,000. As the fighting game series has primarily thrived in unofficial tournaments, Nintendo revealed a new association with esports organization Panda Global the year before, marking the company’s initial big move toward a federally accepted tournament circuit.
Initiating on June 24th at CEO 2022, the Panda Cup would end up making many visits to renowned battling game events. The only thing that distinguishes this circuit from others, namely the Smash World Tour, is Nintendo’s endorsement. Panda also stated that Nintendo will not be a sponsor of the event.
