Last month Google announced to rebrand the Android Wear as Wear OS. Wear OS is a version of Google’s Android operating system, specially designed for smartwatches and other wearables. These devices can be paired with smartphones running on a minimum Android or iOS version listed.
One of the prominent features of Wear OS is “Play phone Voice call on watch”. Yes! It does exactly the same thing as it sounds. Through this functionality, one can pick calls right from the connected smartwatch. Apps like Duo and WhatsApp are compatible with this extension.
Surprisingly, around 3 months ago, there was a report of a major bug in these Google devices. To be exact, on 23 December 2017, the glitch was first circulated in the Google Issue Tracker. It’s been 3 months, and Google is still finding a way to solve the issue. So, what is the bug actually about? Users have claimed that the phone app is getting irresponsive for 10-15 seconds whenever a call is taken through the watch while “Play phone Voice call” is enabled. During these seconds, nothing is audible per the purchasers. Google officially declared that the Google Wear OS bug had got fixed after a few days of getting those reports. However, some users have claimed that the problem is still there.
In return, Google said the fix was only applicable to those devices which have received the Wear OS rebranding OTA updates, like the Huawei Watch 2 and Google Pixel 2 XL. As the problem is still present, Google is gathering bug reports and have asked the users to reset their watches. Let’s hope that Google comes up with a permanent solution to handle the glitch soon.
