Bungie is now formally a member of the PlayStation family, according to a tweet from Sony’s official PlayStation account. In accordance with the acquisition’s conditions, Bungie will continue to have autonomous creative control over its business activities. Despite joining the PlayStation family, the studio will continue to operate independently.

Back in January 2022, Sony Interactive Entertainment revealed their $3.6 billion offer to buy Bungie, sparking a lot of speculation concerning the future of PlayStation and Bungie’s initiatives. After a protracted finalization procedure, Sony’s $3.6 billion acquisition of Bungie, the company behind the Halo and Destiny video games, is now complete.

As a game developer, Bungie has moved a really long way and achieved several key milestones.  When Microsoft controlled it at the time, the Xbox-only Halo series was developed there. Then it broke away and released Destiny alongside Activision Blizzard before regaining its complete independence. Finally, now  Sony Interactive Entertainment is the current owner of it.

“This unprecedented collaboration with PlayStation is a significant step forward. I’m beyond enthusiastic about the next stage of our trip. Our mission is to make Bungie the finest place to work in the entertainment business – a center of creative and technological excellence for our team, our gamers, and the communities in which we live “Bungie CEO Pete Parsons stated.

It will be fascinating to see what this new collaboration has in store for fans now that Bungie is officially a PlayStation franchise. Given whatever the company has previously achieved, there is reason to believe that Bungie will perform at its best throughout the PlayStation brand experience.

Despite being a part of Sony, Bungie will “continue to independently publish and artistically develop our games,” according to Bungie CEO Pete Parsons in a blog post from the time of the acquisition’s initial announcement. Additionally, future games under development by Bungie won’t be PlayStation-only titles, according to the statement from  Justin Truman. With this acquisition, Bungie will be able to employ additional personnel and hasten the development of the next game.
