Pokemon Scarlet and Violet now hold the honor of being the second-largest boxed launch sales in the UK.
Everyone anticipates the release of new Pokémon games because of how well-liked the franchise is. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the most recent entries which debuted on November 18, have skyrocketed in boxed sales and surpassed titles like God of War Ragnarok, Modern Warfare 2, and FIFA 23.
Sales of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have outperformed fans’ expectations
According to the reports, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have become the second-biggest boxed launch in series history after Pokémon Sun and Moon and, at the time of writing, had sold 25% more copies in their first week than Pokémon Sword and Shield did. Additionally, it sold a stunning 70% more copies than Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl and 56% more than Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
Though Sun and Moon generated more money in the first week, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet did better. Scarlet sold 42% fewer units than Violet, which accounted for 52% of game sales. The remaining 6% of revenues were made up of sales of both games.
Moreover, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet had the greatest opening week sales this year in the UK, with a 4% rise over the previous highest FIFA 23. It is a noteworthy accomplishment given that box office sales for sequels typically decline each year as digital downloads take an ever-increasing share of the market. The first week’s sales were 25% higher than the previous mainstream release of Sword and Shield.
Just one week after the long-awaited release of God of War: Ragnarok on the PS4 and PS5, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet sales capture the spotlight. After a 73% week-over-week decline in sales, Ragnarok falls to No. 4 this time.
These are undoubtedly impressive numbers, but it should be noted that Nintendo exclusively reports only boxed sales data. The games should do well outside of the UK as well; it will be interesting to see if it eventually overtakes all other games in sales.
