One of the most in-demand battle royale game PUBG Mobile has been in the limelight recently for wrong reasons. Several countries have come up calling for a ban on the popular battle Royale game PUBG, calling it a “bad influence on youth.“
Recently a South Indian boy committed suicide after his mother scolded him for playing the popular online game. This has inflamed a national debate over whether the game should be banned.
A few weeks ago in India, it was reported that two cities Rajkot, and Surat, had banned PUBG Mobile. The reason for such a stunt was to show how the game has been potentially affecting the behavior of students in the cities. And this had led two more cities to follow the same decision in the wake of the stunt.
Now, reports are coming in from UAE that the parents there are demanding a ban on PUBG Mobile. Parents report that this game has undoubtedly negatively affected the minds of children which make them very aggressive. Kids took this game so seriously that their only goal is to win in this game.
Nepal has gone ahead and completely banned the popular online game citing violent content and negative impact on children. The reasons mentioned for blocking PUBG were similar to those quoted in other countries – it is addictive to children and teenagers, distracting students from their schoolwork.
India and Nepal aren’t the only countries worried about PUBG. China too wants to limit the time kids spend playing the game. PUBG has decided to implement digital lock for its users under 13 years of age in China to combat addiction. The digital lock system will not let underage players play the game, and they would have to ask their guardians or parents to open the game for them.
While China has already started taking steps to put age limits on certain games, PUBG Mobile had also introduced restrictions for minors such as limiting access to its games for them to just one hour per day. It will be interesting to see how Tencent Games handles the game’s popularity and parents’ concerns.
