Samsung had announced that it will bring to the market the first-of-its-kind Quantum 5G smartphone called the Galaxy A Quantum 5G smartphone. Samsung’s claim is that this phone is the first-ever 5G smartphone that also comes with a quantum random number generator or popularly known as QRNG. The smartphone was developed in collaboration with ID Quantique.

Even though the smartphone may sound like the smartphone from tomorrow, contrary to popular belief the smartphone was designed keeping in mind the everyday consumer, and what they require and deem necessary for a smartphone to feature.

There is no doubt that the Quantum 5G smartphone will come equipped with highly advanced quantum security technologies, it also comes with the basic necessities of a smartphone. It should be mentioned that the smartphone houses the world’s smallest QRNG chipset, measuring in at 2.5mm by 2.5mm.

As mentioned before, and emphasized by the smartphone manufacturer itself, the smartphone is integrated with enhanced quantum cryptography. This quantum cryptography is integrated into the smartphone through the use of advanced two-factor authentication (2FA). In this case, the 2FA can also be used to use for authentication-based payments such as SK Telecom’s SK Pay and a blockchain-based service known as Initial.

As good as that may sound, the quantum security service is only available to SK Telecom users and only via the Samsung Galaxy A Quantum 5G smartphone, obviously. Moreover, for new users of the phone when it becomes available on the market, they will need to go through the earlier 2FA when they want to log in to their T-IDs.

Though the smartphone was launched in South Korea, Samsung has not mentioned when the Galaxy A Quantum 5G will be launched on the global market, if it will ever be available on the global market. Given the complexity of SK Telecom’s QRNG technology, it is possible that the technology will only see circulation within South Korea.
