Samsung develops and produces its own camera sensors for smartphones under the name ISOCell. A new trademark application indicates that Samsung is developing a new sensor, ISOCell Motion.
Samsung ISOCELL-Motion sensor possible for gesture recognition
On October 30, 2019, Samsung applied for a trademark from the EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office) for the name ISOCELL-Motion. The request is categorized as Class 9, with the following description.
Trademark description: Dynamic vision sensor (DVS) for object and motion detection; motion detection sensors; object detection sensors; camera image sensors for smartphones and tablets.
The description indicates that Samsung is developing a sensor that can detect movements. This year various smartphones with gesture recognition have been released. Consider, for example, the LG G8 ThinQ and the recently introduced Google Pixel 4 with radar technology. It is quite possible that Samsung is also working on similar technology for the Galaxy S11 series.
Another possibility is that Samsung Electronics is working on a new tracking system to prevent motion blur.
Whatever it may be, it is obvious that the Korean manufacturer wants to use this technology for the Samsung Galaxy S11 series, which is expected in February 2020.
