A few of the dissatisfied users of the Samsung Q80R TVs took to the Samsung Newsroom to have their issues addressed and heard, in the hope of a possible solution.
A user wrote on the forum that his 65-inch Q80R comes with the support for the Dolby Atmos with Netflix as long as Dolby Digital+ is selected in the sound expert settings; however, since the company rolled out the latest firmware 1356.2 updates, Netflix has locked onto the Dolby Digital+ settings chucking the Dolby Atmos setting for Netflix out the window.
However, the Q80 soundbar still supports the Atmos settings for all the BlueRay content with HDMI pass-through but the new TV firmware altogether has done away with supporting the Atmos.
Samsung was supposed to roll out an update that supports the eArc, but from the looks of it, some of the TV has been downgraded sans the Dolby Atmos support for Netflix. It is indeed shocking and quite heartbreaking for a TV to downgrade, especially the one that costs £5k.
The downgrading event is not an exception or even the only one. Few other users have also expressed the same grievance and reported that their TV too has stopped supporting the Dolby Atmos, and instead has gone back to the 5.1 surround sound.
Samsung has not provided any solution to the problem yet, but a user did come forward with a solution. Apparently, he turned on the Input Signal Plus in the settings for the HDMI Input that was connected to the HDMI Arc input of the soundbar.
Then in the Netflix app, the Sound advanced settings could switch back the 5.1 surround system to the Dolby Digital+ with Atmos Compatibility. This solution may have worked for some, but others are still facing the same issue. As mentioned before, Samsung is yet to address this problem and offer a solution.
