Foldable phones will be taking over the luxury phone market in the next few years. Samsung, Motorola, and Huawei have already launched their foldable phones in the recent past. However, Samsung is already a market leader in this segment.
Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) has released a report confirming the market leadership of the South Korean giant and also gives more information about this sector. 80 percent of the market share will be taken over by Samsung by the end of this year.
Samsung Logo Blue has highlighted the report of DSCC mentioning that Q2 of 2020 is expected to be the recording period for foldable panel shipments for 2020. The firm believes that Galaxy Z Flip will be the top-selling foldable phone of 2020, followed by Galaxy Z Fold2, Motorola Razr, and Galaxy Z Flip 5G.
Talking about brands. The report of the 80 percent market share in a foldable phone can be added with the information about Huawei’s inability to launch the Mate X2 because of the US ban. Clamshell foldable smartphones will cover 60% of the market according to the same reports, again due to the absence of Mate X2 with an in-folding screen.
When it comes to the display cover, UTG (Ultra-Thin Glass) will lead with more than 80% share. Nitto and Colon have a top share in foldable polarizers and CPI (Colorless Polyimide) respectively over Sumitomo Chemical while Qualcomm has over 95% market with Snapdragon 855+ providing the power and support to the foldable phones closely followed by Snapdragon 865+.
