Samsung is one of the first companies to launch a smartwatch that runs on Android Wear, the newly named Wear OS. Later the company dumped the partnership focusing on its own operating system, Tizen. But now it looks like the smartwatch will ditch the Tizen Operating System favoring Wear OS.
Reports were around on the Chinese social network Weibo that the Gear S4 will be powered by Wear OS instead of Tizen. And the rumor is stated to be confirmed by none other than Evan Blass. He said to have seen the smartwatches on the wrists of Samsung employees running on Wear OS instead of Tizen. “Gear watches running not Tizen, but Wear OS.”- Evan Blass (@evleaks) wrote on Twitter
This doesn’t necessarily hint that Samsung has decided to release its users’ Samsung Wearables Wear OS watches, but this makes us believe that the company is considering the idea. Samsung’s all-time operating system of choice has been Tizen, but it certainly lacks some app support which Wear OS stood above Tizen.
Samsung still needs certain changes to make to compete with Apple Watch. It would definitely be much of everyone’s interest to see Samsung experimenting by launching Gear Smartwatch in two variants; Tizen and Wear.
