Starbucks presents the all-new Starbucks Touch pen which looks like an ordinary everyday pen but has the capability of completing an EC payment function. The pen has been a long-awaited item by the collectors of previous Starbucks products such as the Cup, the Drip, the Hug. The Starbucks Touch Pen will be launched on September 25 to cater to a large number of Starbucks customers. The Starbucks Pen which essentially is a ballpoint pen has been manufactured by Zebra in Japan.
As for the ink in the Starbucks Pen, it is coffee brown in color, and the pen itself will be available in three colors, silver, white and black. This is also a part of Starbucks Japan’s campaign to go cashless. For those professionals who get coffee before running off to their places of work, standing in a long queue may seem like a morbid daily task.
The Starbucks Pen is supposed to lessen the crowd traffic on a rush hour and speed up the process of payment for a cup of coffee. For making a payment the Starbucks Pen users only need to touch the tip of the pen to the Starbucks Card machine which will accept the payment. And because the Starbucks Pen is actually a pen, it comes handy from boardroom meetings to generally everywhere.
A felica chip is installed near the tip of the pen. The pen has to just hover over the mobile Starbucks Card to simply touch the card with the tip of the pen to complete paying for a cup of coffee under a minute.
The sales for this product is also proving itself to be a concern owing to the sales result of the past products released by Starbucks.
The Starbucks Pen is available for purchase online only. The offline availability of the pens is not confirmed yet. The Starbucks touch the pen price starts at 4,000 yen plus tax.
