After being one of the longest-tenured executives in Tesla, besides being its co-founder, CTO J. B. Straubel is all set to step down and become a senior advisor in the company instead. The announcement regarding the same was made at Tesla’s earnings calls today, where Elon Musk also announced that Straubel shall be succeeded by former VP of Technology, Drew Baglino.
Tesla was not the first company that Straubel had co-founded, having also co-founded Volacom along with Harold Rosen. His list of accomplishments includes helping Tesla create its battery technology and launch programs like the Supercharger network and the Tesla Energy business.
When Tesla was still in its initial stages of car manufacturing, Straubel was already talking about building electric cars worth $20-$30, 000; a dream Tesla has almost accomplished. Straubel is also credited to have built an electric Porsche 944 which earned the 240V SC/B in 2000.

While Straubel is among one of the many executives who have left the company in the last few years, he assures that it is not due to “some lack of confidence in the company or the team or anything like that.”
