The Nissan Titan is about to join trucks including the Tesla Cybertruck and Rivian in the electric pick up revolution. Nissan has been recently in talks with EV startup Hercules Electric Vehicles in Detroit for developing an electrified version of the proper sized truck.

Although official news of the deal is yet to be confirmed, it is reported that Nissan is planning to buy Hercules’ battery-electric powertrain for the vehicle and in return few of its parts are expected to be sold to Hercules’ EV pickup truck by the legacy OEM.

The deal between Nissan and Hercules follows the legacy laid by companies like Ford-Rivian and GM-Nikola Corp. Last year, to gain access to the startup’s skateboard platform, Ford signed a $500 million partnership with Rivian and in this year, GM, to balance its development expenditure, decided to take a $2 billion stakeout including Nikola.

Although Tesla has decided to remain silent about the preorder for the Cybertruck, Elon Musk has expressed its amazement regarding its demands and in the Q4 earnings call last year said that “I have never seen actually such a level of demand at this – we’ve never seen anything like it basically. I think we will make as about as many as we can sell for many years”.

GM, who has fully exposed an EV pickup, is one of the few legacy automakers to do so. Thus making the company, Nissan Titan’s main rival in the booming market. Electric pickup trucks by Tesla and Rivian, when compared to the upcoming vehicle from GM and Nissan, may fit multiple demographics.

It can be made sure from the number of orders received for the limited edition Hummer EV and R1t that the market is about to experience an overarching demand for the electric pickup trucks. The Hummer EV which was released by GM last month along with the limited Edition 1 variant of the electrified pickup went out of stock within 10 minutes. Along with Hummer EV and limited Edition 1 variant, the limited launch edition of Rivian’s R1T truck got sold to preorder holders, within a week of its launch.
