The Tesla Semi was presented at the end of 2017 in prototype format. The electric truck of the Californian brand was somewhat overshadowed by the surprise revelation of the Tesla Roadster in that same event.

The supercar displayed a performance never before seen in an electric car (0-60 miles per hour in 1.9 seconds, more than 400 km / h of top speed, 1,000 km of autonomy, etc.).

However, since then, the Semi has been gaining more and more relevance in a market in which, little by little, brands have begun to bet on the electrification of heavy transport.

The Tesla Semi is probably the most anticipated truck of recent times, not only due to its nature as a battery-powered electric vehicle but by its proximity to the specifications of a thermal truck in all possible aspects. Companies such as Volvo Trucks or Daimler are also betting on this solution, as opposed to Nikola’s hydrogen fuel cell, Toyota or Hyundai.

According to the sources, the Tesla Semi will have two versions: One with 480 km of autonomy and another with 800 km. Both figures are initially under the realistic EPA approval cycle, which should be equivalent to the autonomy in real truck conditions. In addition, Elon Musk said at the time that they hoped to improve autonomy in the final model, which could be around 950 km per charge.

Another strong point of the Tesla Semi is that it is only slightly more expensive than a diesel semi-truck type (150,000 dollars for the 480 km version and 180,000 dollars for the 800 km). Thanks to the huge Fuel savings that should be achieved with it, companies that decide to bet on the model probably amortize their purchase quickly.

Nor should we forget that thanks to its high power can make 0 to 100 km / h in just 5 seconds. You can recover 80% of your load in just half an hour, thanks to a network of Megacargadores that Tesla will begin to build soon. This will be built on the most important commercial routes in the United States, which will allow the truck to increase its versatility enormously.

Initially, production is scheduled for 2019, and curiously the brand has not announced (yet) any of the typical delays that tend to affect their new models. A red unit of the Semi has just been caught being tested on the highway, which differs from the prototypes of silver and black matte that were recorded until now.
