Since TSMC announced in 2020 that it would build a 5-nanometer factory in the United States, the construction progress of the factory has been attracting attention from the outside world. The corporation has consistently emphasized that the work is in line with forecasts and that mass manufacturing is anticipated to begin in 2024, despite reports of a delay.

Equipment supply chain news states that TSMC’s new US plant will begin operations between this year’s end and early 2023, with trial production beginning at the end of the following year and major production beginning in the first half of 2024. To assist American semiconductors and take advantage of regional economic prospects, the Taiwan-based factories and consumables companies went to the US.

How N5 Family Mass-production is Increasing Efficiency and Reducing Power Consumption in the US

However, it is believed that N5P and N4 in the N5 family would initially be produced by TSMC’s US factory. Among them, the N5P process chip, which began to be mass-produced in 2021, will be 5% more efficient and use 10% less power than the N5 technology. N4 is also N5. the second upgrade, which further enhances efficiency, power use, and density.

Industry research indicates that the TSMC N5 has been in mass production for more than two years; thus, to better serve customer needs, TSMC has released enhanced N5 family members in the US factory. The expansion of the N3 process in the United States will come once the N5 is on track, which might happen in 2026.

In addition to taking into account the building period, the N3 process, which is comparatively stable and can satisfy TSMC’s primary requirements, will be produced in large quantities for 4 years. The foundation for production, research, and development is Taiwan’s operational direction.

How TSMC’s US Plant Aims to Support Customers To Dispatch Manpower

The Taiwanese supply chain fully cooperates with TSMC as it establishes factories abroad to assist clients. Hantang won the clean room, MEP, AAS water gasification, and other associated manufacturing projects, while Fanxuan is working on water gasification projects and more. They also worked together to deploy the team’s personnel from Wisconsin to Arizona. The legal person predicts that the peak of revenue recognition will occur from the second half of this year to the first half of next year.

Diamond Disc and Recycled Wafer Factory Zhongsha are currently working diligently to create a branch in the United States; the US office of the wafer carrier solution manufacturer Deng was founded in 2020 and will continue to supply goods from Taiwan to the United States. Customer service will be available close by when it is operational in 2023, but Taiwan will continue to serve as the production location.

Meanwhile, it should be noted that Arizona has a relatively complete semiconductor supply chain, and many semiconductor manufacturers have built production facilities there. The industry thinks it has become a trend for TSMC to speed up the deployment of new foreign operations. Setting up service centers in the US can help the Taiwanese supply chain obtain orders under the wave of American semiconductor independence while providing complete support for Taiwan’s largest customers.
