Audio tweets for users have already been introduced by Twitter in June. They now wish to introduce the voice DMs and will begin the testing of voice messages soon starting with Brazil.
Twitter will thus allow users to record and send voice messages as a direct message. This feature has been already seen in apps like WhatsApp and Messenger, though speculations say that such a feature for Twitter is not a great option.
Alex Ackerman, who is Twitter’s product manager for direct messages said about the development through a 20-second voice message. “We know people want more options for how they express themselves in conversations on Twitter – both publicly and privately,”.
The voice message interface on Twitter will be very simple and user friendly to compete with other apps and their popularity.
There would be a record and stop button, which a user would need to keep pressing until he speaks and release the button once the user is speaking. The DMs can only be exchanged between mutual followers, reducing the misuse of the technology to send something obscene or unbelievable.
In the case of misuses of the feature, there is also an option to report messages. Once it is introduced, the users can protect their DMs section to avoid any unpleasant experiences.
The feature received a lot of criticism and the Design chief Dantley Davis said,
“We shipped something that shouldn’t have been shipped without this conversation happening. Now, we have a full-time accessibility team within product development, and that includes engineering and design. We also changed our product development process, so that accessibility is always considered during even the conceptualization of features. Hopefully, that new development flow is in place as Twitter continues the development of voice messaging. Earlier, Twitter had announced that it would add more information to the topics that appear under the trends section. This would help people know why something is trending on Twitter.”
Twitter has also informed about the improvement in headlines and short descriptions to some Trends, to easily access the rundown on why something’s trending while using the Explore tab or when the user taps into a Trend.
