Link previews have made its way into almost every social media or music streaming apps. Whenever a link containing either news or even a video is posted online on Facebook or on YouTube, it gets shared on various messaging apps such as Telegram or WhatsApp, the recipient can see the content of the link shared with them.
Furthermore, the recipient does not have to directly click on the link which in turn would take the user to the page or the app from which it was shared. It naturally makes things easier for everyone because the users do not have to leave the app to view the content.
If the link is shared, say on WhatsApp of a YouTube link, the user can play it on WhatsApp itself while continuing with texting. Whenever a new feature is included it makes the old feature appear obsolete and a little tiresome. Now, most people prefer link previews over actually having to click on the link and be redirected to perhaps another app or a website.
Although Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp, etc. already have this feature integrated, Twitter was lacking behind in this regard. It has been quite a long time since the link preview was introduced, it is only now that Twitter is taking a step forward and is currently working on including the Link Preview feature. The famous reverse-engineer Wong M Jane tweeted that Twitter is working on this new feature.
This news was welcomed by Twitter users with open arms since the content of the link can actually be viewed along with the tweet, ad users would not have to spend time reading it on a different page if they do not feel like it.
However, Wong M Jane also mentioned that this feature is working on the Twitter web app, so it is not sure yet if link preview works on Twitter’s mobile app also. Even if it does not work on the mobile app, Twitter will certainly roll the feature out gradually for the mobile app.
