Since taking over Twitter in October last year, Elon Musk has announced that he would turn the micro-blogging platform into a super application that combines many functions. Twitter blue subscription which is at the top of all is one of the innovations of the billionaire. Likewise, the introduction of gold and silver ticks, reinstating controversial accounts, and many more.

As part of his vow to turn the platform into a super application, the CEO has just confirmed the introduction of voice and video calls to the app. In a recent tweet, Elon Musk confirmed that the platform will soon be adding voice and video chat capabilities, allowing users to communicate with anyone on the platform without having to share their phone number.

Twitter Voice and Video Calls

In the tweet, he explained that the new feature will enable users to initiate voice and video calls from their Twitter handle to any other user on the platform. Users will be able to chat with people all over the world. Musk is also encrypting Twitter Direct Messages and enabling the usage of any emoji reaction in replies to any message in a thread, not just the most recent one.

Additionally, Musk further added that version 1.0 of encrypted direct messages (DMs) will be released shortly. He highlighted that even with a gun to his head, he wouldn’t be able to read the contents of a user’s DMs due to the encryption’s strength.

Consequently, the addition of audio and video chat is anticipated to help Twitter achieve Elon Musk’s goal of turning the microblogging platform into a super app. Users will be able to continue having personal conversations inside the app thanks to Twitter’s addition of a calling capability. It will be interesting to observe how the platform’s user base reacts to it.
