Volkswagen is preparing to set a new arduous vision to produce over 15 million vehicles on its new MEB platform in the first wave of its EV assault that will be achieving the target of investing 9 billion euros in the new VW I.D family by 2023.
The namesake brand will include 20 electric vehicles in its process by 2025, where there have been just two entries. Volkswagen will initiate quick mobile charging stations to encourage and accelerate the new EVs’ embankment.
The charging columns are rooted on the battery packs, which are preferably used with the automaker’s MEB platform and can be set up in the areas like parking lots, and at large events when required. The stations can also be removed after using it. VW mentions that the average time taken for the process would be 17 minutes, including the battery holding capacity of 360 kilowatt-hours, where each station is equipped to charge up to 15 electric vehicles. There is an option of charging four vehicles at the same time, and the two with the DC quick charging connectivity, whereas the other is linked with the AC connections. The charging stations can also cause depletion of energy storage and can also be swapped for receiving new ones.
There is an instant opportunity to charge the devices that can also be used with solar or wind energy, which can provide complete CO2 neutrality.
According to Thomas Schmall, the chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Group, Components include the charging of the mobile stations as the prominent step to produce an effective network of the charging stations, and Volkswagen declares the efficiency of the temporary stations will encourage the working of the charging infrastructure. The devices can also be used to reuse the batteries from the vehicles to power the stations. The Cities can also find the most efficient locations for the permanent charging point before making the prior investments which helps in managing the network system.
It is expected to first appear in Wolfsburg, Germany, as part of the pilot project at the beginning of 2019. By 2020, it is expected to grow in other cities as well.
