In a bid to increase the range of its MEB-based electric vehicles, the German automobile giant Volkswagen has officially announced that it is working on ID vehicles with a 700 kilometers range. By 2025, the models will be released in the automobile market.

The MEB-based electric vehicle is a custom-built architecture that underpins the brand’s electric vehicles.

With this new development, the long-wheelbase version of the ID Buzz is projected to have a substantially longer range than planned. The ID.4 is expected to improve in this area as well in the coming years.

The 700-kilometer range is calculated using the WLTP cycle, which is more lenient than the EPA testing procedures used on this side of the Atlantic.

This indicates that the EPA range of these vehicles is more likely to be about 560 kilometers (350 miles), which is still more than 140 kilometers (90 miles) longer than the current ID.4 with the longest range.

These changes are intended to benefit the ID. Life and the Aero B, are two new models set to arrive in 2025, but only the more expensive Aero B is likely to have a range close to this new objective.

According to the automobile giant, aside from the 700 kilometers range, the MEB-based electric vehicles will be designed with a charging capacity of over 200 kW from 125 kW to make long-distance journeys with VW electric vehicles easier.

Therefore, vehicles equipped with the twin-motor all-wheel-drive system will feature increased performance manifest itself from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration times of around 5.5 seconds. The Volkswagen ID.3 was the first production car based on it, and there are now nine MEB-based models, including Volkswagen, Skoda, Seat, and Audi.

It could be recalled that early this month, at “Paris Electric Car Day,” the Head of Sales and Marketing for the ID, Dr. Silke Bagschik revealed Volkswagen’s substantial improvement and efforts in the MEB-based electric vehicles are coming soon with outstanding features.
