Many car manufacturers come with ambitious plans to reduce vehicle life cycle emissions. And now Volvo has its own environmental pledge. It expects half its cars to be electric by 2025. Volvo today unveiled its all-wheel-drive (AWD) XC40 Recharge pure EV at an event in Los Angeles which marks its start towards its pledge.
Volvo’s operations will emit 25 percent less carbon by that date, and so will its suppliers. If the corporate adheres to the setup, the recycling and reuse of materials in Volvo’s supply chain will increase notably. By 2025, the car manufacturer says, it would produce cars that will contain 25 percent recycled plastics.
The car looks quite similar to its gas-powered counterpart and will house a 78kWh battery pack underneath the passenger area. The XC40 EV will support fast-charging DC port which asserts to charge up to 80 percent from zero in 40 minutes. In a bit of a surprise, the dual motors will output 402 horsepower and 486 foot-pounds of torque. More powerful than expected for a small SUV.
Volvo says the car will be updated frequently and will be better over time.

This year, the company claims that you’ll be able to see a number of first steps. Starting now, Volvo says every new car launched will be electrified in some way with the goal of phasing out the internal-combustion engine keeping in mind its environmental pledge for a better tomorrow.
