Xiaomi’s budget phone, Redmi 5A, launched in India in November 2017, has started receiving the MIUI 10 Global Beta Stable ROM update. MIUI 10, which was launched in July this year, has been undergoing tests with beta releases to compatible handsets before its stable release started in September. Since then, the company has been rolling out the update in phases, to a number of handsets, the first wave of which was extended to the Redmi 6 series. And earlier this month, Xiaomi confirmed that 21 more smartphones in its lineup will start receiving the MIUI 10 update, which would include the Redmi 5A.
Xiaomi has already kicked off rollout for the Redmi 5A, reports a moderator on the MIUI forum. The update carries the build number 10.1.1.0.NCKMIFI, and it is being rolled out over-the-air (OTA) for Redmi 5A users. The post also adds that this is a Beta Stable ROM, and is only being pushed out randomly to a handful of select users. It shall be released to everyone without the beta moniker in the near future, after receiving the feedback from this release.
Screenshots shared by a user on the MIUI forum shows that the update is still based on Android Nougat instead of the latest Android Oreo. It is expected to include many new developments, but Xiaomi has yet to update the complete changelog.
Owners of the Xiaomi Redmi 5A can check for the latest MIUI 10 Beta Stable ROM by visiting Settings > About phone > System updates > Check for updates; or go to ‘Updater’ and check for updates. In the meantime, XDA Developers has managed to provide the MIUI 10 Global Stable ROM package for the Redmi 5A, which is available in the form of recovery ROM based on Android 7.1 Nougat.
Since the MIUI 10 Global is already available in the form of recovery ROMs for the Redmi 5A, it can be safely speculated that an OTA update for both handsets will arrive soon enough. Users are not, however, advised to install the update from the recovery ROM, and instead wait for an official rollout in order to reduce the chances of bugs that are expected to be eliminated in the interim.
