Since the release of the M2 chip in the 2022 ‌MacBook Air and the 2022 13-inch MacBook Pro, Apple has been reported to be working on the next-generation processor – the M3. The chip, unlike the current M1 and M2 chips, is expected to come with huge improvements in the CPU and GPU performance.

As we are anticipating the official launch date, the popular Bloomberg analyst, Mark Gurman, has now revealed that the American tech giant is testing the processor. Mark Gurman disclosed in the Power On newsletter that Apple has been testing the base model of Mac Mini with the yet-to-be-launched M3 chip.

Apple is Testing M3 Chip: Mark Gurman

According to him, Apple is testing an eight-core CPU and a 10-core GPU Mac with 24GB RAM that’s running macOS Sonoma 14.1. Gurman said that the specs of the new chip are similar to the base model M2 Mac Mini, except for the memory installed.

He further affirmed that in the company’s earnings call, it pointed out that it is expecting a double-digit decline in Mac revenue in the fourth quarter of this year; Gurman reiterates that he doesn’t expect any M3-powered Macs to come before the first fiscal quarter of 2024 begins in October.

However, as per reports, the M3 processor will be used in Macs starting in 2023, with the first M3 Mac models releasing in October of this year. The debut of the M3 Mac Mini is not expected to happen before 2024. But when the M3 chip debuts in October, we will have a good sense of how it functions.

M3 Chip Expected Specs

The current Mac Mini from Apple uses M2 and M2 Pro CPUs. Also, the M1 model, which was released over three years ago, is still available. Two years passed before the business finally released an improved Mac Mini with M2 Chips. The M3-based Mac Mini, though, might ship this time in a shorter amount of time.

The chip is anticipated to be built on a 3nm process rather than a 5 nm manufacturing technology like the M2. Likewise, it should result in some improvements to the performance of the CPU and GPU. The M3 processor will reportedly include 8 CPU cores and 10 GPU cores, which is relatively close to its predecessor in terms of core count. Thus, stay connected with TechGenyz.
